Many challenges surface when returning to school as a professional student.  For most, the biggest obstacle is finding the balance between work, family, and school along with all the other day to day tasks of being an adult; such as laundry, eating and paying bills. 

In January of last year, I received the announcement that the facility where I had worked for more than 10 years was shutting down by the end of the year and everyone was going to lose their jobs.  This was of course news that I didn’t want to hear, but truth was it was also not unexpected. 

The online MS in Communication program is structured for the online grad student to successfully balance the time commitment of the program with other life challenges.

Every course I underwent toward the completion of the online Master of Science in Communication degree at Purdue had its merits. Some were more challenging than others. Some were more technical.

When I received my acceptance letter from Purdue’s Brian Lamb School of Communication for the online MS in Communication program, I knew I was about to embark on a challenging, life-changing journey. In order to make room for twenty to –thirty hours of school work each week on top of my roles as wife, mom, and full-time employee, my daily schedule was going to stretch and transform in ways I never imagined possible.

What do Wonder Woman, Superman, Spiderman, Thor, Hulk and Super Girl all have in common? Besides being my kids’ best friends and movie protagonists, they exemplify power and heroic qualities.

One-half of all associations reported growth over the past year, according to a 2016 Membership Marketing Benchmarking Report. Fifty-one percent of professional societies, specifically, reported growth in their membership over the course of just one year.

Grad school teaches you so much more than theories and techniques in communication. Yes, I have honed in on best practices for strategic communication campaigns depending on my client’s target audience.
